Overview

One of the smartest suspense debuts since "A Simple Plan." A wonderfully moody and atmospheric story reminiscent of the masters of the noir mysteries. Tightly plotted, sophisticated, and engrossing, this is a winner.--Nelson DeMille.

I always say a good reader can make an ok book very good and a bad reader can make a good book terrible. Erik Davies is perfect for this book. It's the first time I've listened to him, but his voice and style fit this book to a tee. It almost had the feel of an old crime noir book, and I loved it. If I had read the book, I'm pretty sure I would have only given it 4 stars. I'd still be very happy with having invested the time, but may not have enjoyed it as much. The story itself is good and does a decent job of keeping you guessing. It's amusing how the author pokes fun at crime stories in general throughout the book. I look forward to listening to the next book in the series (Very Bad Men).
