The history in WWI times, the "cast" system were alive and well in the British Isles and Maisie D was as sharp as always even in her sorrow.

I love horses so enjoyed the parts about the horses in the story. The prejudice about any one that is different from themselves plays a key role in this story. The lessons to learn are important. The stress the people are under at this time of history with WWII still fresh in the hearts and mind and a pending WWII about to start. Makes for interesting time for a story.
