Kathryn Tucker Windham has been telling stories on the storytelling festival circuit as long as there has been such a circuit. Her Southern stories, told in her rich Alabama accent, are a comfort to the ear and the heart. These two recordings will be followed by three more later this year.
Included in Grits are ten stories full of humor and wit, including "Piano Lessons, " "The Green Rubber Bathing Suit, " "Iced Tea, " and "Listen to the Morning." Barbershop Education features nine stories, including "Fro Houses, " "The Kitchen Tombstone, " "Honeysuckle, " and "First Airplane Ride."
This was a delightful trip down memory lane for me. Not only were the stories delicious, full of the flavor of the deep south, but the recorded sounds of the crickets singing and the train chugging added tremedously to the overall experiance!
Kathryn Tucker Windham is the author of the popular Jeffery ghost story series for children, and makes frequent appearances at storytelling festivals throughout the Southeast and around the nation. She lives in Selma, Alabama.
