I put off reading this series for many years, for many reasons. Primary among these reasons is that I just don't care for "preachy" reading. This book has plenty of that- hence only 3 stars, but the novel's characters are well enough developed to have piqued my curiosity. This earned it better than the "1" I might have given it for its preachiness. I have the remaining books of the series in queue, but just for convenience sake. As these books are written in variable partnerships, I'll see how it goes.

The cd is thoroughly entertaining and keeps the audience's attention. The only negative comment that I have is the interuptions each chapter with the credits for the publishing company, author, printing and recording company disclosure, etc. was a little overwhelming and become obnoxious after the 3 chapter. If you can deal with that, it is worth while and entertaining.

Horrible writing, moronic plot

This book is really boring. Don't waste your time. However, if you want a more substantial review... In the right author's hands (say, Stephen King), a book about the Christian rapture myth might have been intersting. This treatment is really a sermon disguised as a book. Women are portrayed as weak, dithering characters who need the guidance of men with cliche manly names like Dirk and Buck. The men have internal dialog that sounds like it was lifted from a Phillip Marlowe novel. The plot wanders near and far with no clear direction or motivation. Bad guys are shadowy, undefined and off stage. This book makes the TV show "7th Heaven" look dark and edgy. At best, this "book" is a pastor's fantasy about how people should think and feel as opposed to real human behavior. At worst, this book can be described as a religious revenge fantasy whereby church people who feel persecuted by "unbelievers" get to see the "unbelievers" get what they deserve.

I read this series before but must say hearing it on audio book was even better. I heard things I had forgotten about or may not have read carefully. An excellent series!
