I really don't understand how a previous reviewer could have thought there were no meditations or guided meditations, since each of 6 sessions has a lengthy meditation... taking one from ordinary reality to sitting on a high mountain overlooking a lake and under the wish-fulfilling tibetan jeweltree with one's mentors. thurman fulfills his outstanding role of teacher with a combination of erudition, understanding, and detailed explanation that is helpful, fascinating and leads one to higher state of peace, calm, and service to other beings on the planet. i kept this long enough to listen to the whole thing twice, and will want to hear it all again.
A little "out there" with the magical wish granting gem tree. After awhile the talk did get more pragmatic but for me it was too airy, whereas I'm looking for a little more history or direction and not run on talking with no reference points I can relate to.
Dr. Thurman is very clear and elegant in his descriptions of the steps to enlightment. I personally would have enjoyed some guided meditations but I am glad I heard his talk.
