Short stories that ranged from excellent to mildly amusing. If you are a Vonnegut enthusiast like I am, you will enjoy these short stories from before he became famous.
This collection of stories is listed as being 7 hours, but I see an 11 hour 28 minute version available for download somewhere else . . . hmmm . . .
I read this about 30 years ago and either my sensibilies have changed or I remember it wrongly. I've always liked Vonnegut, but many of these stories are dated and don't seem to hold up well over time. A couple were very good, but the majority...well, not so good.
Say there are 4 short stories here. Most of them are not that good. Some are just down right horrible. But the short story that shares the book titles name. Is one of the best short stories you will ever hear in your entire life. Followed by a few decent ones. Just skip to the "Welcome to the monkey house story" Then send it back.
Some of the short stories were really good and held my interest. Some had surprising endings. Others were dull to me or too long. Guess that is what you get with short stories, a little bit of everything.
Kurt Vonnegut was a master of contemporary American Literature. His black humor, satiric voice, and incomparable imagination first captured America's attention in "The Siren's of Titan" in 1959 and established him as "a true artist" with "Cat's Cradle" in 1963. He was, as Graham Greene has declared, "one of the best living American writers."
